Holy Week Events

Holy Week is the heart of the church’s ritual, theological, and missional life. The life and mission of Jesus meet their fullest test. Jesus stares directly into the face of the structures of sin and the powers of death and remains true to his calling and the work of God’s kingdom

Palm Sunday, April 14th

Palm Sunday recalls the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. He was greeted by crowds waving palm branches with shouts of “Hosanna,” which was a call for help.
The 10 a.m. service will have a children’s procession carrying palm branches. Following the service of the palms, there will be a reading of the passion story from the Gospel of Mark. The account will begin with Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, and then move through his arrest, trial, crucifixion, and burial. The church choir will sing a selection of anthems between each of the readings.

Holy Thursday, April 18th

Join us for an opportunity for personal prayer and reflection on the passion of Christ. Journey to the Cross is a series of prayer stations, each one focusing on a specific event during Holy Week leading to Easter. There are scripture readings at each station, with questions that help each person reflect more deeply on the meaning of the event.
There is a Family Hour from 5 to 6 p.m., which provides parents an opportunity to talk with their children about Jesus. Then, from 6 to 9 p.m., Journey to the
Cross will continue with an atmosphere of quiet reflection.

Good Friday, March 30th

There will be a Good Friday Tenebrae service at 8 p.m. There will be a reading of the
passion story from the Gospel of John. After each reading, a candle will be extinguished.
Chants from the Taize Community will be sung between readings. The service ends in
complete darkness.
